Structured Workplace Learning

Structured Workplace Learning is on-the-job training providing students with the opportunity to put into practice the skills and knowledge they have gained through attendance of their VET course.

Through work placements, students gain real life work experience in an industry of their choice. Opportunities are loaded on to the SWL portal for students and schools to search, the South West LLEN then facilitates the arrangement of these placements.

THE SWL PORTAL

The SWL Portal is a public website available to students and schools across Victoria, allowing them to search appropriate placements. The portal is regularly updated with new opportunities across a range of industries and vocations.

So far, the SWL portal has assisted with the arrangements of over 5500 placements.

Work Experience

Work experience provides secondary school students an opportunity to undertake short term placements in industries which give students insight into the future world of work in an area they are keen to explore. Work experience is an important part of students’ decision making for future careers and subject selection.

This is a valuable experience for students and can lead to some fantastic opportunities for students such as casual/part-time work as well as traineeships and apprenticeships.

Over the course of the year, students from almost every school in our region will undertake work experience, and South West LLEN is pleased to assist in the placement and coordination process.
