What is vocational training (VET)?
Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications have been developed with the specific goal of preparing you with skills for work.
VET is designed to help you to join the workforce and to help you carve a career pathway that doesn’t involve going to university or finishing your VCE. VET qualifications have a very practical, hand-on focus within various trades and offer you the flexibility to work and learn, with the idea of progressing your employment opportunities forward in an area that interests you.
As well as specific skills for your chosen occupation, a VET course will often include generic work-based topics such as workplace health and safety. You are in charge of your career future, and vocational training may be the route you wish to take to reach your career goals.
What is Structured Workplace Learning?
Structured workplace learning (SWL) provides students with the opportunity to integrate on-the-job experience with secondary study - so you can learn new skills whilst remaining at school.
Structured workplace learning is delivered as part of either the:
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
VCE Industry and Enterprise, or
VCAL units
Speak to your school career advisor or teachers to discuss your career options via the Structured Workplace Learning channels. It is an option to really get experience and potentially discover the career pathway of your dreams. South West Local Learning & Employment Network are dedicated to finding you the right workplace to progress your career journey.
THE SWL PORTAL
The SWL Portal is a public website available to students and schools across Victoria, allowing them to search appropriate placements. The portal is regularly updated with new opportunities across a range of industries and vocations.
So far, the SWL portal has assisted with the arrangements of over 5500 placements.
