SWLLEN ON THE HUNT FOR VOLUNTEER MENTORS IN COLAC

South West Local Learning & Employment Network are looking for candidates in the Colac region who are willing to mentor students to assist in the delivery of Project Ready Certificate II in Active Volunteering.

Project Ready is a hands-on work readiness and personal development VET course that includes two SWL placements for each participating student.

Piloted in 2017, Project Ready was designed to provide holistic assistance and direction to disengaged students to help them re-engage with their education and prepare for their future worlds of work.  Project Ready has since been redesigned to be suitable to a wider range of students and is mapped against a Certificate II in Active Volunteering.

Denise Madden, from South West Local Learning & Employment Network commented: “The Project Ready volunteer mentor is responsible for connecting with the students and supporting their wellbeing and engagement.

“Volunteering is an experience that can’t be overlooked.  It provides so much in terms of experience and learning and is a fantastic field for students to get involved with and for them to make solid connections to help pave the way for future work experience.”

As well as assisting the student on an individual level, the mentor will assist with small group work as directed and help coach students through the Project Ready journey, fostering the confidence and skills required to achieve their goals.

Emily Lee-Ack, Executive Officer of South West Local Learning & Employment Network said: “Project Ready supports students to become work and life ready.  Project Ready is a full-year VET program mapped against Certificate II in Active Volunteering. The program is auspiced by IVET and delivered by a TAE-qualified trainer.

“Volunteering is such a large part of the region – volunteers organise many of the events and community initiatives that are enjoyed by all of us.  Volunteering is sometimes overlooked, but the foundations that it puts in place cannot be ignored for those still thinking about career pathways and wanting to gain experience.”

To register your interest in becoming a mentor in the vital area of volunteering, please contact Denise Madden at South West Local Learning & Employment Network on denise@swllen.net.au or visit the website at www.swllen.org.au.
